How the panda picker works
Add your options — restaurants, movie picks, whose turn it is to do the dishes — and press the button. The panda eyes each bamboo stalk in turn, slows down as the tension builds, and finally settles on one. The choice is made by a fair random draw on your device; the panda is just here for the drama.
When a random picker beats a debate
Research on decision fatigue shows that small, low-stakes choices drain the same mental energy as big ones. When every option is fine — where to eat, which film to watch, who goes first — delegating the choice to chance ends the stalemate instantly, and (surprisingly often) reveals what you actually wanted: if you feel disappointed by the panda's pick, you have your real answer.
- Group deadlocks — nobody has to be the one who decided.
- Classroom picks — choosing a student fairly, with a bit of theatre.
- Giveaways — drawing a winner from a short list of entrants.
- Icebreakers — letting fate assign topics or teams.
Frequently asked questions
Is the pick truly random?
Yes. The winner is chosen with your browser's random number generator before the animation starts — the panda's deliberation is pure theatre and never changes the result.
How many options can I add?
Up to eight, so every bamboo stalk stays readable. For longer lists, run a few elimination rounds — the panda doesn't mind.
Are my options saved or sent anywhere?
No. Everything runs on your device — nothing you type is stored or transmitted.
